Pet Vaccinations

Why Vaccinations Matter for Puppies, Kittens, Dogs & Cats

Vaccinations are one of the most important ways we can protect our pets from serious, potentially life-threatening diseases. Whether they're young and growing or fully grown and thriving, dogs and cats need regular vaccines to stay safe - and to help protect other pets too.

1. Prevent Life - Threatening Diseases

Vaccines protects pets from serious illnesses like parvovirus, distemper, leptospirosis, cat flu, and feline leukaemia. These diseases can spread quickly and may be fatal - but most are entirely preventable with proper vaccination.

2. Puppies and Kittens Have Immature Immune Systems

Young pets are especially vulnerable. That's why they need a series of vaccinations starting at 6-8 weeks old. These "booster shots" build their immunity at a time when their natural defences are still developing.

3. Booster Shots Maintain Protection Over Time

Immunity doesn't last forever. Regular booster vaccines (usually yearly) are essential to keep protection levels high throughout your pet's life - even if they seem healthy.

4. Protection in Social Situations

If your pet goes to dog parks, groomer, daycare, boarding facilities, or interacts with other animals, vaccines help prevent the spread of contagious diseases. Most pet care services require proof of vaccinations for everyone's safety.

5. Some diseases Are Common in Australia and Can Spread to Humans

Diseases like parvovirus and leptospirosis are still found around Australia. Regular vaccination helps protect your pet, especially in high-risk environments such as parks, rivers and urban areas. Vaccinating your pet also helps protect your whole family. Some diseases such like (leptospirosis or ringworm) can pass from animals to humans - especially in children, the elderly, or people with low immunity.

6. Regular Checkups Go Hand-in-Hand with Vaccination

Vaccination appointments are also a chance for a general health check - making sure your pet's eyes, ears, teeth, weight and general wellbeing are all on track.
